Small changes keep the 2016 Jetta GLI fresh and hip
Volkswagen released info on the reworked 2016 Jetta GLI today; this sporty trim level boosts power and tech over a standard Jetta. Volkswagen calls the Jetta GLI “a sedan equivalent of the Golf GTI” -- namely because they share the same 2.0-liter, turbo-four engine.
The engine may stay the same, but Volkswagen did make some small updates to the front and rear of the GLI. The revised front fascia uses a new honeycomb grille and new fog lights that give it a look similar to the latest Golf GTI. The backside will get a reworked bumper with diffuser and new chrome-tipped exhaust outlets. The GLI will also feature a set of 18-inch rims unique to it that will come wrapped in all-season tires or optional summer performance tires.
The 2016 GLI will still come in just two trim levels, SE and SEL. The top-level SEL trim comes with safety features like blind-spot monitoring, navigation and an adaptive lighting system. Volkswagen is also adding a new safety feature called Post-Collision Braking, a system that will actively apply the brakes after an initial impact to help prevent further collisions.
